The Select Pembs website: our own case study

A look at how our own Pembrokeshire business website brings design, development, enquiries and practical buying advice together. Explore the working features and the decisions behind them.

The brief: explain the business and make the next step clear

Select Pembs needed a company website for businesses across Pembrokeshire, with website and web application development, managed web services and consultancy taking the lead. Graphic design and photography support that core offer.

The site also needed to explain that advice can be commissioned before choosing a supplier, including when the eventual build goes elsewhere. A visitor should understand the service, find relevant guidance and request a free initial consultation without needing a finished brief.

Keep the supplied identity and build around it

The starting point was an existing design system. We retained its editorial typography, teal full stop and kinetic headline, then applied that language across service pages, guides, navigation and enquiries.

The homepage message remains: We take care of your website. You focus on your business. Motion supports the identity, while the content explains what each service covers and how work is agreed. The site's decorative business photographs are labelled as illustrations where shown; the screenshot on this page is the actual Select Pembs website.

Make Pembrokeshire part of the experience

The homepage includes an interactive Pembrokeshire map beside the main service introduction. Visitors can expand it, explore the county and choose whether to show town labels. Area and industry pages provide relevant starting points without presenting service areas as extra offices.

This connects the local focus with the way the site works. The map supports the service explanation; visitors can still reach the written services and enquiry route through normal navigation.

Provide a usable enquiry route and display controls

The consultation form asks for the service needed, an email address and a short description, with optional business, telephone and website details. It submits to the site's contact service rather than opening the visitor's email application. A test enquiry reached the approved inbox and was confirmed by the owner during the build.

Validation explains missing or unsuitable entries and preserves the entered information after an error. Submission is an enquiry, not a confirmed appointment.

Display settings include reduced motion, dark mode, text size, stronger contrast, text spacing, a simpler typeface and underlined links. These controls supplement the page's headings, labels, keyboard navigation and responsive layout; they are not a claim of independently certified accessibility.

Demonstrate a small web tool with a real purpose

The quote-comparison tool helps visitors compare two or three supplier proposals over one and three years. It separates initial, monthly and annual charges and states the calculation assumptions.

Missing prices must be resolved rather than silently counted as zero. Editing an amount hides the previous result until it is recalculated. The calculation runs in the browser, and the tool does not send or store the prices or supplier names entered. A clear control removes the comparison.

This is a working example of a focused browser-based tool. It does not calculate a Select Pembs project price or decide which supplier is right for the visitor.

What we checked, and what remains to measure

The build checks page titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, internal links, image references, structured data, sitemap coverage and genuine not-found responses. Important service and guide content is present in the delivered HTML.

Checks during development covered narrow mobile, tablet and desktop layouts, enlarged text, reserved image dimensions, form feedback and the quote tool's arithmetic. These are specific checks on this implementation, not a guarantee that every device or assistive technology has been tested.

The result is the public site you can explore now. We have not established a measured increase in enquiries, revenue or search rankings attributable to the build. Those outcomes need evidence over time.

Apply the same process to your business

Your website may need a different structure, visual approach or set of features. We start with what your customers need to find or do, review your existing material and systems, and agree the scope, responsibilities and ongoing care.

Bring a new idea, a website that needs attention or a proposal you would like to understand. The initial consultation is free; any detailed review, design or development is separately scoped and priced before work begins.
